Dovetail Box
For my dovetail box, I used 3 1/2 foot board of red oak. I also used multiple tools like a routers and a dovetail jig to cut and for the dovetails and pins. The box has an acrylic top and a plywood bottom to make a display case look. First I cut the board with a chopsaw to get the sides of my box.
I then cut the parts with the dovetail jig to get the dovetails and pins on my parts.
Once the parts had been cut with the jig and routers, I checked to see if they would fit together. I tried this 2 times, one without the top and bottom and one with. I cut the acrylic top and plywood bottom on a bandsaw.
Now that I knew that the box would fit, I decided to glue it together and cut the top off.
With the top cut off, I sanded the sides smooth. I pobably should've done this before cutting the top for a more uniform sanding and an overall better fit, but the box still looks good.
The last major thing I needed to do for my dovetail box was stain it and apply a polyurethane coat. I used a Red Mahogany stain and it looks gorgeous.
After the staining and coats, I added hinges and my box was done.
Below are some pics of the tools/materials used
